Stage Name: The Andrews Sisters Birth Names: LaVerne, Maxene and Patty (or Patti) Andrews Occupation: close harmony singing trio /WWII USO camp show singers / actresses / pinups Years Active: 1925–1967 Notable Works: Scores of hit records, my favorites "Rum and Coca Cola" and “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B ” nominated Best Song at the Academy Awards (from Abbott and Costello's "Buck Private" 1941); sold over well over 75 million records total and were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1998. Date/Place Birth: Minnesota, U.S.A. : LaVerne July 6, 1911, Maxene Anglyn January 3, 1916; and Patty Andrews, February 16, 1918. Date/Death/Cause: LaVerne Andrews died May 8, 1967, she died of cancer after a year-long bout with the illness, Maxene Anglyn Andrews died October 21, 1995; Maxene suffered a second heart attack and died at Cape Cod Hospital, Cape Cod Massachusetts, U.S.A.. and Patty (or Patti) Andrews still living. LaVerne and Maxene Andrews are interred in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Glendale, California with their parents, and room remains in the crypt for Patty if she chooses that as her final resting place. At age 91, Patty Andrews lives quietly in Northridge, California, together with Wally, her husband of over 55 years. Spouse(s) & Children: Patty Andrews married agent Marty Melcher in 1947, and left him in 1949; then married Walter Weschler in 1951, the trio's pianist. LaVerne married Lou Rogers in 1948, a trumpet player in Vic Schoen's band, and remained with him until her death. Maxene's husband was music publishing giant Lou Levy from 1941-1949; Levy was also the groups manager from 1937 to 1951. Short Biography: The Andrews Sisters were a close harmony singing group of 3 Minnesota born sisters LaVerne, Maxene and Patty (or Patti) Andrews: LaVerne Andrews (contralto; July 6, 1911-May 8, 1967), Maxene Anglyn Andrews (high harmony; January 3, 1916-October 21, 1995) and Patty (or Patti) Andrews (lead; born February 16, 1918). They were already well by known the Americans through their recordings and radio broadcasts in 1937 and during WWII their popular music entertained Allied troops worldwide, sold war bonds, and appeared in several films; they also toured with the USO camp shows and performed live for soldiers serving stateside and overseas. |
