Date/Place Birth: November 10, 1907 Columbia, Missouri, United States of America Date/Death/Cause: Jane Froman died April 22, 1980 (aged 72) of cardiac arrest due to chronic heart and lung disease in her hometown of Columbia, Missouri. She is buried at the Columbia Cemetery. Spouse(s) & Children: Married Don Ross 1933 divorced in February 1948; married John Burn March 12, 1948 only to be divorced eight years later in 1956. Jane Froman retired to her home town of Columbia, Missouri in 1961 and married an old college friend, Rowland Hawes Smith. Short Biography: Jane Froman was a very talented American singer and actress. She also hosted her own television show called The Jane Froman Show. In 1943 while on tour entertaining troops in Europe with the USO she was involved in a terrible plane crash which came close to severing her leg. Over the next three years, she underwent thirty nine surgeries, not wanting to amputate. She returned to Europe and entertained American troops despite having to walk with crutches, she gave 95 shows throughout Europe and continued with a successful career performed on stage, radio and television despite chronic problems from the plane crash and wore a leg brace for the remainder of her life. |
