Hedwig Eva Maria Kiesle began her career in 1930 in Czech and German films. It was the Czech production Ekstase (1933), in which she caused an international sensation by appearing nude and simulating orgasm, that brought her worldwide attention. The resulting notoriety got her called to Hollywood, and she was signed by MGM and changed her name to Hedy Lamarr; (name rhymes with "lady").
