Along with stars like Bing Crosby and Bob Hope, she did many Command Performances for the armed forces radio network. The entertained regularly at the Hollywood Canteen and to support our troops overseas, who liked her singing a lot, she participated in USO tours to Europe, Her personal appearances during World War II were enthusiastically received, and only Frank Sinatra exceeded her in popularity. She sang to large audiences of GIs in England and France with for the USO enduring the hardships of traveling with the camp shows and on a number of occasions, she performed within 2,000 yards of the front lines.

May 26, 1963 - 1964 divorced) Short Biography: Born to Russian Jewish Immigrants Francis Rose Shore, Winchester Tennessee in 1917 the beautiful young girl that grew up to capture Americas heart as the radio host, talented singer and popular TV personality Dinah Shore learned to confront and conquer life’s obstacles from the early age of two when she was stricken with the child debilitating disease polio. Dinah Shore was an intelligent girl who received a degree in sociology in 1938 from Vanderbilt University but developed her singing talent and pursued work as a singer and radio personality. As World War Two grew and spread so did Dinah’s popularity as a recording artist and radio personality; her songs inspired and helped American service people and civilians cope with the adversities and complexities of the war and helped sell some war bonds too. Dinah Shore was a popular recording artist and dabbled in night club and stage performance and the Hollywood movie industry but as you probably know she found her real forte as a singing television host. Her epitaph aptly reads: "Dinah Shore — Loved by all who knew her and millions who never did."
