When World War Two got started she all but abandoned her film career to focus on supporting our troops and the U.S. Allied war effort and worked closely with the Red Cross. She was so often loudly and publically intensely outspoken against Adolf Hitler that her name appeared on his blacklist. She put on a uniform when she joined the pre-USO group the Hollywood Chapter of 'Bundles for Bluejackets' and she helped run a Naval Auxiliary Canteen and toured frequently to raise funds.

Her life, movie career and accomplishments cannot be condensed down to a paragraph or page and if you want to know more about her there is an autobiography as well as biographies large and small, both online and in book form.
