She didn’t pose for cheesecake photos but she was no doubt a popular pinup girl with the GIs anyway. Not long after she started working in Hollywood, the studio wanted to make some stills of her and the photographer suggested that she raise her skirt ''just a trifle.'' She looked at him, smiled, and remarked: ''But I came here to act, not to dance.'' During World War Two she went to American military bases in Alaska to entertain American troops, and soon after the war ended, she also went to Europe to tour the camps and entertain Allied troops as well.
Stage Name: Ingrid Bergman, in 1939 attempts were made by Hollywood producers to change her name but she refused. Birth Name: Ingrid Bergman Occupation: Stage, Movie, Television Actress Years Active: 1935–1982 Notable Works: Ingrid Bergman is best remembered for co-starring with Humphrey Bogart in the famous 1942 World War II drama Casablanca but she did not receive any Oscars for that great movie. She is ranked as the fourth greatest female star of American cinema of all time by the American Film Institute and a long list of awards among them three Academy Awards (plus 4 other Oscar nominations), two Emmy Awards, and the Tony Award for Best Actress. A few of her other memorable rolls were in For Whom the Bell Tolls (1943), The Bells of Saint Mary’s (1945), Joan of Arc (1948), and Murder on the Orient Express (1974). Date/Place Birth: August 29, 1915 (1915-08-29), Stockholm, Sweden Date/Death/Cause: After a long battle with breast cancer on her 67th birthday August 29 1982 Ingrid Bergman passed on while at her home in London, Englane. Her ashes were returned to Sweden where a few were scattered in the sea the remainder were placed in a small grave next to her parents in Stockholm Norra begravningsplatsen (Northern Cemetery), Stockholms Lan, Sweden Plot: Section Kv 11F, grave 228 -11573. Spouse(s) & Children: Dr. Aron Petter Lindström (m. 1937–1950 divorced) 1 daughter born 1938 Pia Lindström; Italian film director Roberto Rossellini (m. 1950–1957 divorced) 3 children, Roberto Ingmar Rosselini 1950, twins Isabella Rossellini and Isotta Rossellini 1952; producer and fellow Swede Lars Schmidt (m.1958–1975 divorced; remained close to Ingrid Bergman until the very end, despite their divorce). Short Biography: Bergman is unique among the Hollywood super stars; what she had she brought with her, she did not change her name, her looks, or persona to suit the studios; many movie stars were remade, packaged and sold by the Hollywood studios but not this one. She was the most international star in history, spoke fulgently and performed in five languages, and happily acted equally well on the stage, screen and TV. It is impossible to distil the life or award winning acting career of such a legend as Ingrid Bergman down to a few paragraphs, many books have been written about her life and career and if you are looking for more biographical information there is much on the internet too. |
