Food Conservation Patriotic Posters inspired by Herbert Hoovers ideas and ideals:
After the United States entered world war 1 in 1917, then President Woodrow Wilson appointed Hoover head of the U.S. Food Administration. Hoover believed that food will win the war and he led a campaign to organize American food use and eliminate waste and abuse. He established set days to encourage people to avoid eating particular foods like sugar and wheat in order to save them for soldiers' rations: meatless Mondays, wheatless Wednesdays, and when in doubt, eat potatoes. These ideals and programs reflected in this gallery of patriotic U.S. food conservation posters helped reduce waste and consumption of foodstuffs needed overseas, avoided rationing at home and helped the Allies win the war.
