WPA Art Projects: the U.S. government getting people back to work and supporting the arts.WPA posters (WPA: origionally Works Progress Administration then changed to Work Progress Administration) were art projects made during the WWII era as part of Franklin Delano Roosevelt's New Deal. They were designed to publicize health and safety programs as well as other things; in this case the poster communicates a public service message of the importance of complete compliance to the necessary blackout measures. The posters were made possible by one of the first U.S. Government programs to support the arts.
