Giants of Industry Were Needed to Defeat the Evil Axis Powers; Giants like the one shown in this poster:
"America Needs, Your Eyes, Your Hands, Your Body;

In March of 1942, Donald M. Nelson, director of the War Production Board requested private companies to voluntarily establish joint labor-management committees to help facilitate cooperative labor-management relations and unite labor and management together in the purpose of making their contributions toward the defeat of the Axis powers the number one ultimate goal. Nelson made it clear that the purpose of the committees was to increase productivity and boost morale, not to "put labor into management…or management into labor." These committees utilized the art departments of their own companies to create thousands posters such as this one from The Employer's Liability Assurance Corporation Limited / American Employers' Insurance Company / The employers' Fire Insurance Company in their effort to support the workforce, increase production and raise morale. Poster designers often portrayed labor with heroic attributes and symbolized labor as muscular giants. These posters conveyed the message that workers' awesome contribution to the war effort lay in providing powerful physical strength, "giant" effort and superior technical skill to maximize production, build it faster and better to defeat the enemy.
