Designer of this U.S. Army Air Force Recruiting Poster noted American Artist Cecil Calvert Beall (1892 - 1967) was art Director for the National Democratic Party during President Roosevelt's administration, Cecil Beall was a well-known illustrator and portrait artist during the 1930s and 1940s. United States of America Military Armed Services and Civil Defense Recruiting Posters: When the United States entered World War II the U. S. Air Force, Army, Navy, Coast Guard, United States Marines, all branches of the armed services began aggressively recruiting and scores of government civil defense workers were needed as well. The military and civil defense wanted women as well as men and World War II also created a shortage of nurses many were already in the military so a new uniformed service was created to recruit, educate and fill this void with young American women, the new uniformed service which eventually no longer needed and abolished in 1948 was called the program administered by the U.S. Public Health Service was called the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps. All this war recruiting resulted in some outstanding artwork and effective motivational recruitment poster printing by the U.S. government; these awesome military recruiting posters surely made Americans want to join their favorite branch of the armed service or other uniformed services like civil defense or the U.S. Cadet Nurses; some of the best recruiting posters printed during the late 1930's and early 1940s are displayed on these pages.
