The Fourth of July is the federal holiday in the United States that celebrates the birth of the United States of America as a country united and the July 4th date highlights congresses adoption of the Declaration of Independence in the year 1776. On this day, the congress accepted the Declaration of Independence and in effect the colonies declared their independence from Great Britain and the king’s colonial rule.

On the 4th of July, there are thousands of parades, barbecues, and fireworks displays colorfully light the U.S.A. skies, as Americans of many of varied international heritages and races all celebrate the important date in American History. Hopefully you viewed the 2009 fireworks display over, New York City harbor, it was the biggest fireworks display in history !!! firing off a over 22 tons of pyrotechnical explosive fireworks. Others celebrate the holiday with cookouts and picnics and many citizens display the American flag proudly.

Fun Facts About 4th of july

• In 1778, George Washington celebrated the fourth of July by giving his soldiers a double ration of rum and a salute via artillery.

• In 1791, the term “Independence Day”; was officially recorded for the first time.
• In 1870, Congress decided to make the fourth of July an unpaid holiday.
• Then in 1938, Congress reinstated the fourth of July as a paid holiday.

Although Congress accepted the Declaration of Independence in principal it was not signed July 4th as many believe; there were over 50 men who were present at the signing, most congressional delegates signed the document on August 2 1776, when a clean copy was finally produced by Timothy Matlack, assistant to the secretary of Congress. Several congressional delegates did not sign until later. Famous signers of the declaration of Independence include Samuel Adams, John Adams, John Hancock, Benjamin Franklin, and Thomas Jefferson.

Thanksgiving Funny John's friend gave him a parrot as a gift. The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary. Every word out of the bird's mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity. John tried and tried to change the bird's attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else he could think of to 'clean up' the bird's vocabulary. Finally, John was fed up and he yelled at the parrot. The parrot yelled back. John shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier and even more rude. John, in desperation, threw up his hand, grabbed the bird and put him in the freezer. For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed. Then suddenly there was total quiet. Not a peep was heard for over a minute. Fearing that he'd hurt the parrot, John quickly opened the door to the freezer. The parrot calmly stepped out onto John's outstretched arms and said "I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I'm sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I full intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable behavior." John was stunned at the change in the bird's attitude. As he was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic change in his behavior, the bird spoke-up, very softly, "May I ask what the turkey did?"

Click BBQ Fire Image for Large OK, it’s not a grill that’s interesting here: it’s the way it’s lighted. You’re looking at George Goble of Purdue University lighting the 60 lbs of charcoal with 3 gallons of liquid oxygen: Started with 60 lbs of charcoal, and burnt up 40 lbs of it in 3 seconds. Result is a grill ready to cook in about 3 seconds, and all the old grease, etc burned off. Don’t try this at home. WARNING: an ignition source, such as a lit cigarette or one glowing coal, must be present before pouring on the LOX. If charcoal is PRESOAKED in LOX first, an explosion will result. One briquette presoaked in LOX is approx equiv to 1 stick of dynamite. And oh, this goes without saying: don’t try this at home. Please, or this may happen.In case it's not clear from nohit's picture - that's George lighting the grill with liquid oxygen. The routine would be: 1. place full, unopened bag of charcoal in grill. 2. put about a gallon of liquid oxygen in a metal pail wired to the end of a 2x4. 3. place a lit cigarette on the bag of charcoal. 4. use the 2x4 as a big long handle to pour the oxygen on the grill. 5. After about 3 seconds of spectacular flames and noise, half the charcoal is remaining as toasty cherry red coals, all ready to begin the grilling. As I remember, one year we made coke slushies with some of the remaining oxygen. Good times!	Yummm... bite this sun baked burger, even better than barbacue! HAPPY LABOR DAY!!!
