Armed Forces Day is holiday to salute to the all the men and woman in every branche of the service. When is Armed Forces Day in the USA? In 2012 Armed Forces Day in the United States of America is celebrated on Saturday, the 19th of May. In the United States, Armed Forces Day is always celebrated on the third Saturday in May.
Brief Armed Forces Day History: Historically, each individual branch of the military had their own day of celebration. But, on August 31, 1949 then Secretary of Defense Louis Johnson announced the creation of Armed Forces Day which combined all the celebrations of the US Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Coast Guard, and United States Department of Defense into one holiday celebration, “Armed Forces Day”. President Harry Truman also announced the holiday as the last third Saturday of May in a presidential proclamation on February 20, 1950.
