When do we celebrate our workers hard work and contribution to our United States of America? In the United States of America Labor Day, is always celebrated the first Monday in September; the Labor Day holiday is a creation of the labor movement and one reason it was started for was to build support for the 8 hour work day. (If the world ends in 2012 or 2014 then Labor Day & Labor Day Weekend 2013 and 14 are canceled.) This 2014 Labor Day Weekend should begin Friday August 29th 2014 and ends on Labor Monday September1, 2014 (then in 2015 the first September Monday isn't till the 7th). Thea little bit of Labor Day Weekend history captured in the two photographs above taken in New York City at Americas first Labor Day Parade: "On September 5, 1882, some 10,000 workers assembled in New York City to participate in America's first Labor Day parade. After marching from City Hall, past reviewing stands in Union Square, and then uptown to 42nd Street, the workers and their families gathered in Wendel's Elm Park for a picnic, concert, and speeches." The historic WWII Labor Day Poem that was published in the newspaper with the above graphic Labor Day September 5, 1944: I am Labor. I stand before you on this, my day, free and proud. I am the incarnation of Work, and Work is the foundation of modern civilization.
Before the silvery bombers can take the air my skilled fingers have fashioned and serviced them. The shining shell, the precise rifle, the intricate clockwork of tank and ship, these grew beneath the trained and intelligent hands with which I get my living.
Because the things I do are basic and necessary, I yeld my dignity to no man. Because of that dignity, I prize my manhood and my freedom. I Shall defend it. To those who would degrade me to an automation, make me a slave, I return loud and scornful laughter. Here in my United States I am more than a Worked, more than a Laborer, I am a Man.
This manhood, this freedom, on my own Labor Day of 1941, I do not propose to yield.

Labor Day Holiday History: Once upon a time not so long ago we had jobs and made stuff in America and it was honorable to work (yes even manually) and workers were respected, appreciated, and one could be proud to be a productive worker in the United States of America. The 3 day weekend last hurrah of the summer we call Labor Day Weekend was a celebration of work and the workforce.
The holiday unofficially began on September 5, 1882 when 10,000 workers took an unpaid day-off to honor the labor force of America and marched from city hall to Union Square in New York City, it was the first-ever Labor Day parade. Participants, as well as onlookers could vocalize issues they had with employers. As years passed, more states began to hold these parades, but Congress would not legalize the holiday until 12 years later when President Grover Cleveland was forced to sign the holiday into law as an election-year compromise with labor. Although Labor Day began as a celebration of the American workers, the labor movement and its achievements, it additionally has come to be celebrated as the end of summer vacations, the last, long summer weekend before autumn, a day to picnic and barbecue and a signal that is time to go back to school for the students and a precursor to the harvest season for agriculture.
