Introduction to this Movie Guide, the Film Critic and the author of Top Horror Movies; Upcoming Horror Movies; Newly Released Horror Movies; and My Top 10 Horror Movies List:
Hi, I am Don Smith, I am the author of this web page about the top movies and best DVDs to watch at Halloween time. For this page to be useful you don't have to be like me but I think it is important for you to know from what perspective this Movie Guide has been built. I am a God fearing Christian and my taste leans towards good clean family oriented Halloween entertainment; my favorite studio films come from Disney. I spent about 15 years of my life in the Art Department of the Film Industry so what often looks blood onscreen to you looks like colored karo syrup to me; I am toward the older end of the age scale, I appreciate the classics and I would much rather be amused than freighted by the movies I watch. So if you are like me you can check my Top Movies List for the best Halloween viewing; if you are the opposite you can look in the trash but there are Halloween Movies for everyone somewhere on this page because most of all I guess I like variety!
When it comes to a line up of movies and DVDs that should be watched to enhance the Halloween holiday season the list is going to vary widely from one individual to the next for many reasons so to try and keep it simple I am going to suggest a few of my very favorites with accompanying explanations and descriptions and then just give you a big list of Halloween movie watching possibilities to give you ideas and research links so you can learn and make your own favorite Halloween movies list.
I love classic Disney animation if you do too then on Halloween or sometime during October you need to get a copy of "Mickey's House of Villains
" to put you in the Halloween mood; it's a compilation of many Disney not scary horror shorts shown in a night club style show with many Disney characters on hand including all the infamous villains; Mickey Mouse himself is the Master of Ceremonies but is he safe in the same room as Disney's most evil villains? If you haven't seen it recently one movie that should be on everybody's Halloween movie lineup is "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
" (G) this was released for TV from the Peanuts Gang in 1981 and has been broadcast Halloween time since. If you like the Simpsons you need to view a collection of the previous Halloween Specials: The Simpsons - Treehouse of Horror
(TVPG); after this "must watch" Halloween time viewing there are thousands of weird and spooky movies that could be defined as essential Halloween time viewing and what is best is up to your mood and tastes. My personal favorite "monster movie" would be " Monsters, Inc. 
(G)" and I also enjoy old horror movies from Abbott & Costello and old classical horror favorites like "The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad
" (G) taken from the "Legend of Sleepy Hollow" and "The Wind in the Willows". Another great macabre Halloween time animation is Tim Burtons The Nightmare Before Christmas 
as well as his Corpse Bride (Widescreen Edition)
. Since I lean towards the comedic and family oriented films towards the top my list of Halloween season movies has got to be "The Addams Family
" (PG-13) and its sequel " The Addams Family / Addams Family Values
" (PG-13) both of those are just so weird and wacky in a Halloweeny kind of way and "Young Frankenstein" is great too; or if you like hilarious musicals " Little Shop of Horrors
" (PG-13) is very funny. If its real Horror genre that you crave for Halloween watching I would suggest " Bride of Re-Animator
" (R), "The Howling IV: The Original Nightmare
" (R), "Phantasm II
" (R), and "Hellbound (withThe Hitman/Forced Vengeance)
" staring Chuck Norris because I worked on these great horror movies. If it is graphic gritty blood, bondage, torture, gore, violence and shear terror you seek you can watch " The Passion of the Christ
" which includes super natural phenomena and is based on a true story and may scare you out of hell.
My favorite Halloween TV / DVD entertainment has to be the always much anticipated Simpsons Halloween Specials:The Simpsons: Treehouse of Horror  (TVPG) . If you like the Simpsons then you will love there Halloween Specials which have been hilarious short spoofs of famous scare flicks; these short horror-movie stories are filled with time travel, cannibalism, nightmare invaders, aliens and wizardry.

- Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid
 (PG-13) - 2004, Action / Comedy / Horror / Thriller; A scientific expedition sets out for Borneo to seek a flower called the Blood Orchid, which could grant longer life. Meanwhile, they run afoul of snakes and each other.
- Anaconda III: The Offspring (R) - 2008, Thriller / Horror / Adventure / Action; David Hasselhoff; A mercenary-for-hire accepts a mission from a billionaire to capture a dangerous snake that could possibly help cure a terminal illness.
- An American Werewolf In Paris (R) - 1997, Horror / Werewolves
- Babylon A.D. (PG-13) - Vin Diesel, Action / Adventure / Sci-Fi / Thriller; Veteran-turned-mercenary Thoorop takes the high-risk job of escorting a woman from Russia to America. Little does he know that she is host to an organism that a cult wants to harvest in order to produce a genetically modified Messiah.

Desperate to stay unseen, they bunk out in an abandoned German hideout, where slowly, one by one, they're picked off by an otherworldly enemy they can't identify. For the rest of them to get out alive, they must understand what they're up against so they can vanquish it before it conquers them.

- The Devil's Chair (R) - 2006, DVD Oct 7, 2008 Horror -The Devil's Chair is not really a good film for anybody to watch especially a Christian, too much bloody sex, drugs, blood, bad language, and no redeeming qualities. It is a quite amazing film though, gritty and unusual; made with hardly a plan or budget; I found this movie very scary and disturbing.

- Event Horizon (R) - 1997, Horror / Sci-Fi / Supernaturl Horror; A rescue crew investigates a spaceship that disappeared into a black hole and has now returned...with someone or something new on-board.
- Feast II: Sloppy Seconds (R) - 2008 DVD, Action / Horror / Comedy / Thriller; The monsters have made it into a small neighboring town in the middle of nowhere and the locals have to band with the survivors of the bar' slaughter to figure out how to survive.
- Final Destination - 2000, Horror / Teen Screams / Supernatural Horror; popular Teen Scream Horror has spawned 2 sequels and a TV series.
- Friday the 13th - 1980, Cult Horror with many sequels and spin-offs, Horror / Mystery / Thriller / Teen Scream / Serial Killer; career start for "Jason".

- Hellraiser - (R) 1987, Horror / Thriller / Supernatural Horror; popular cult movie which spawned about 6 sequels.
- The Hills Have Eyes - 2006, Drama / Suspense / Horror / Thriller / Crime / Canniabls / Remake; the origional "The Hills Have Eyes" was a bad movie but they made a sequel anyway; this remake is a bad movie too but if you like it they have made a bad sequel to this one also.
