This photo is of the Sentinels as they guard the Tomb of the Unknowns during Hurricane Sandy. The tomb guards are soldiers of the United States Army's 3rd Infantry Regiment. It is considered one of the highest honors to serve as a Sentinel at the Tomb of the Unknowns. The first 24-hour guard was posted on July 2, 1937. The Tomb of the Unknowns has been guarded continuously, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, since that time. Inclement weather including at least two hurricanes, terrorist attacks, nor anything cause the watch to cease.
